I can blame two of the recent additions on <a href=\"https:\/\/xorvoid.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anthony Bonkoski<\/a>&#8216;s writings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/xorvoid.com\/sectorc.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SectorC: A C Compiler in 512 bytes<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/xorvoid.com\/galois_fields_for_great_good_00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn you Galois Fields for Great Good<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The former made me start (re-)learning x86 assembly language enough to understand the compiler&#8217;s 512 bytes. I <a href=\"https:\/\/notes.technologists.com\/notes\/2022\/02\/14\/glimpses-from-the-vulcan-1969-70\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pursued<\/a> music as my priority but stayed in school in good part to maintain parental subsidy. After Anthony&#8217;s comment, it seemed I should try to find my undergraduate texts, so while it was still relatively cool in the attic Friday morning (82F according to a thermometer placed there). I retrieved several heavy boxes of books. Some were older (my father&#8217;s high school solid geometry text) and some newer (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Grove#Only_the_Paranoid_Survive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grove&#8217;s Only the Paranoid Survive<\/a><sup><a href=\"#fn1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>). Some I can&#8217;t disclose. For others it would be premature to claim victory, but I&#8217;m pleased on this past week&#8217;s successes with <a href=\"https:\/\/technologists.com\/tidbits\/tidbit220118.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clarinet<\/a> notes<sup><a href=\"#fn2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bmJv7OXSAho\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">practical upper range<\/a> of four octaves, and maybe getting meaningful results from a semi-modernized version of <a href=\"https:\/\/notes.technologists.com\/notes\/2022\/01\/10\/koko-misp-2022\/\">SPECint89<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But, I can&#8217;t help myself, I keep starting other new projects, revisiting MIDI hardware and software I&#8217;ve had since 1986, recordings made then, and so much that has happened between then and now. Along with that, I still want to get back to trying long distance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacktrip.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JackTrip<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"fn1\"><\/a>[1] HBR review at <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/1996\/11\/inside-intel\">Inside Intel<\/a><br \/>\n<a name=\"fn2\"><\/a>[2] I can reliably reach C7 (concert Bb7) and sometimes D7 (concert C7). I&#8217;ve long been inspired by Lucia Micarelli&#8217;s brief rendition of &#8220;La Vie en rose&#8221; (as Annie, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Treme_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trem\u00e9<\/a>, S1 E3 13:40). On the violin, Lucia\/Annie ends on concert D7, so I have to reach clarinet E7 to mimic what she does. However, Piaf&#8217;s original recording is in concert Ab, reaching up to concert C when she sings &#8220;Il me l&#8217;a dit, l&#8217;a jur\u00e9 pour la vie&#8221; so achieving consistency with clarinet D7 (C7) is an interim goal.
